Against Me!: Warren Oakes, Laura Jane Grace, Seward, Bowman. Against Me! proved to be somewhat of an anomaly on the US hardcore scene in 2005. There's no emo, screamo, or metalcore to be found on SEARCHING FOR A FORMER CLARITY--just straight-up, three-chord grassroots punk that earned the Florida quartet a rabidly devoted following. Whether the band is performing a folk-like acoustic number or a revved-up barnstormer, frontman Tom Gabel's charmingly gruff, off-key singing carries this thoroughly entertaining set of tunes.
