"I Need a Dollar" was Aloe Blacc's big breakthrough -- a Top Ten single in several countries. He followed it up with Lift Your Spirit, his third album, which didn't rely upon the retro-soul sound of "I Need a Dollar," and instead embraced modern pop. Lyrically, the emphasis was on love affairs, while "Soldier in the City" was socially conscious. On "Love Is the Answer," he collaborated with Pharrell Williams.
